Jeanna Murphy: Music
Sitting in the Corner
This was, I think, the first song I wrote on the guitar. It had no tie to me initially. It was just a song. But years later I really listened to the words and realized that that was me. Crazy how things like that are discovered.
I have heard someone say that they thought that this was a song about child abuse--- it is NOT!
She’s the one they never saw.
She’s the one they never remember.
She’s the picture perfect model of a happy little girl.
But she’s not happy when she’s sitting in the corner.
She sees the world through her kaleidoscope.
Her perspectives wrong; she doesn’t care.
Cause if she looks at the world the real way… she’ll be
Chorus:
Sitting in the corner again
She screams but no sound comes out.
Closes her eyes again
She wants to speak up but she can’t.
Closes her eyes again
Her feet want to move but their not.
Her eyes want to look but their not.
She’s careful; too careful.
She’s been hurt before.
She prays and she stays in the same situation.
She stays and she prays for vindication… or she’ll be
Chorus:
What will happen, will she make it, what will save the day?
Can she fight it; fight the feeling?
Or will she fade away?
What will change her way?
What will make her stay… before she
Closes her eyes again
Sweet little girl, please don’t cry.
Closes her eyes again
There’s a whole wide world for you to try.
Closes her eyes again
Don’t let her sleep.
